Turning Point Gala Fundraiser 10th Anniversary

One of my favourite events is the Turning Point Recovery Society annual fundraiser. As a support recovery organization they always invite a celebrity speaker who has a personal experience with recovery. This being the 10th anniversay, I thought I’d post some of our past speakers.

Above is this years speaker, golf broadcaster and former professional David Feherty. A funny funny man.

Matthew Perry and Rob Lowe were a couple of years apart but it didn’t stop Perry from insisting that he was better looking.

Jim Belushi and Ashley Judd both had compelling stories of the effects of addiction on family members.

Martin Sheen was just a great guy. Open, honest, and had time for everyone. David Crosby and Crosby Stills & Nash were one of my all time favourite bands. A real honour to meet him. Also a great storyteller.

Happy 80th Birthday to the Dalai Lama

I want to add my voice to the outpouring of love and good wishes for His Holiness the Dalai Lama on his 80th birthday.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama

I’ve twice been blessed to have the opportunity to photograph His Holiness on his visits to Vancouver. For someone who carries the weight of the Tibetan diaspora and the loss of his homeland, his capacity for joy and compassion is remarkable.

Desmond Tutu and His Holiness the Dalai Lama

His first trip here he shared with Desmond Tutu. It was such a treat to watch these two good friends, as they truly enjoy being in each others company.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama

His Holiness hardly ever missed an opportunity to engage with people on the street.  Given that India is now his home, I imagine he was expressing his gratitude to this Sikh security guard.

Full houses on every stop.

Happy Birthday from all your Canadian friends.

Music at the Ironworks

One of the great things about having my studio in the Ironworks Studios in the variety of stuff that goes on here.

Ironworks Studios

Today we have BRBR Tv  http://www.brbrtfo.com/  A french station out of Toronto filming the duo, Ingrid and Samuel.

They’ve been filling the space with beautiful harmonic melodies all day. The vocals are provided by Ingrid Rondel, above in the foreground and Samuel Sixto below on keyboards.

Turning Point Gala

One of my favourite jobs every year is shooting the Turning Point Recovery Society Annual Fundraising Gala.

Jim Belushi

This year’s keynote speaker was Jim Belushi. He gave a heartfelt and honest talk about the effects of addiction on him and his family.

Randine Neill

The evening’s host was, once again, Randine Neill from Global News. She always does such a great job of moving through the agenda with grace and humour.

Terry Lake

Seen here, with Jim Belushi and Turning Point Executive Director Brenda Plant, is BC Health Minister Terry Lake.

The big news of the night was the presentation of a million dollar cheque from the BC Government for the upgrading of Turning Point’s facilities. That along with the live and silent auctions made it a stellar night.

Michael O'Shea

As the event photographer, I couldn’t have asked for a nicer guy to work with. Jim was both fun and accommodating with everyone.
